A threshold exists where collaboration with another—be it nature, process, or substance—expands our understanding of materiality.
Sarah Myerscough Gallery exhibited at PAD Paris 2025 with a selection of works by our collection of international designers and artists, presenting new sculptural art and design pieces defined by innovative craftsmanship and skilled material experimentation.
A threshold exists where collaboration with another—be it nature, process, or substance—expands our understanding of materiality. These intersections between materials are most powerfully articulated by liminal forms of sculpture, which exist within the margins between the corporeal and the conceptual.
Featured artists; Adi Toch, Alida Kuzemczak-Sayer, Aneta Regel, Christopher Kurtz, Domingos Tótora, Eleanor Lakelin, Full Grown, Janet Ann Lines, Jiwon Park, Julian Stair, Kenji Honma, Luke Fuller, Marc Ricourt, Marlène Huissoud, Mayumi Onagi, Nic Webb, Ori Orisun Merhav, Sukkeun Kang, Tadeas Podracky and Tomonari Hashimoto.
At our inaugural presentation at PAD Paris, our artists forged such ideas through their works, with the likes of Ori Orisun Merhav and Marlène Huissoud, who form a chimeric practice with insects. Their sculptural furniture pieces combine an auroral form of collective making with the natural world, in this case with the Kerria Lacca insect and silk worm respectively, utilising the architectural skills of both to realise avant garde works that represent visions for the future.
Merhav’s ‘Meet Me Under the Insect Tree’ will be presented at PAD Paris to celebrate her two recent acquisitions by the Centre Pompidou. Her iconic table exemplifies the artist’s notion of material as a “spiritual medium for the meeting of many,” blending innovative design with material intelligence.
Exploring the transition between the earthly and the metaphysical, a selection of sculptural works by our gallery artists was presented alongside our furniture collections, emphasising relative connections to material through the lens of objecthood. We presented explorations of the vessel form and contained objects in the gallery’s signature material of wood, including new works by Nic Webb who responds in spontaneous, personal ways to the individual character of each piece of timber. Eleanor Lakelin expresses a deepening dialogue between machined form and the chaotic emergence of burr, which becomes staged within each of her horse chestnut sculptures.
The liveliness of clay and its affinity with monumental and conceptual relics, will be featured through a myriad of ceramic works. Julian Stair’s anthropomorphic vessels transcend a straightforward representation of the human figure, as he combines the donated ashes of loved ones lost as physical matter into the clay body of his funerary-wares, transforming utilitarian forms into profound spaces of personal and collective reflection. In juxtaposition, the dynamic ceramic works of Aneta Regel and Luke Fuller evoke a sense of flux, their pseudo-organic forms echoing geologic processes of formation and decay. Enlivened as characters, the objects presented are formed with latent animated energy and powerfully convey each artist’s commitment to their making process.
