Etsuko's work has been exhibited internationally, including the international art fair FOG, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Seattle Art Museum, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, and The Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo. Etsuko has received grants from numerous institutions including the Pollock Krasner Foundation, Artist Trust Arts Innovator Award, and Americans for the Arts Funding, and her exhibition NACHI was supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work has been featured in Crafted: Objects in Flux published by MFA Boston and reviewed in national publications such as Sculpture Magazine, NY Arts Magazine, and GLASS Quarterly.
Etsuko works in a broad range of media: drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, film, poetry, and socially engaged art. She works intuitively and spontaneously using ephemeral materials such as fire and water. Her Glass Pyrograph series is a collection of abstract drawings made using molten glass brushed on heavy paper. This work captures the immediacy of a moment in charred tracery. It eternalises her fluid, fleeting movements through the scorched marks of liquid glass.
